I am packing for my my move and have read that certain things are a must to bring with me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am traveling with suitcases only. Thanks, Kris

Things to bring are hard-to-find items here, or expensive items here.
Hard-to-find would be any unique medications or foods. There are very few North American processed foods available here.
Expensive items are small electronics and stainless steel cookware.
Although there's a used bookstore with books in English, if you enjoy reading a lot, a Kindle or other ebook reader would be handy. If you have an unlocked iPhone, bring that. Any other electronics that you use a lot, you should bring, as you may not find one here, and if you do, it will cost a lot more than it does in the US.
Stainless steel anything is very expensive here. So I recommend that you bring a good cookset. If you don't already have one, then it might not be worth the baggage expense plus the purchase expense, compared to Cuenca prices. But if you already have a set, definitely consider bringing it.
Clothing is also expensive here, and most of it comes from China. So bring as much as you can fit into your suitcases. And don't forget some sweaters, a jacket or two, and rain gear.
Speaking of suitcases, it's cheaper to bring extras than to pay overweight charges. And it's definitely cheaper to bring an extra one at $100 or so each than to pay some of the prices you'll have to pay here.

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.
When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.
My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)
Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
