Music in Cuenca is special. Why? Because much of it is free for everyone to enjoy.
There's a wide variety of music available, including classical, jazz, and rock concerts.
Cuenca has its own symphony, and they play several times a year. We've been to several of their free concerts, each with a different guest conductor, and enjoyed every one of them.
There's also the Cuen K Ensamble (pronounced Cuen Caw), the youth philharmonic. We were impressed with their music too, especially since many of the musicians are teenagers.
For the younger crowd, rock bands play at some of the bars. Occasionally there's a rock concert at the football (soccer) stadium.
Cuenca recently won out over Chile and Colombia as the place where Robert (Bob) Brinkmoeller wants to live. That's good news for us, because he loves the piano. He plays wherever anyone will let him.
That includes Hotel Mansión Alcázar's courtyard, where he enjoys their baby grand, and Creta restaurant, in Mall del Río, where he tickles the ivories on the baby grand there.
If you happen by either place and hear live piano, especially ragtime, jazz and the occasional show tune, stop in and enjoy Bob's music.
If you're a musician, there are also several music stores in Cuenca, including one at Mall del Río.
Music in Cuenca has something for just about everyone's taste, whether you enjoy listening to it, or enjoy making it.

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.
When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.
My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)
Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
