Insurance Costs for a 65 Year Old in Cuenca

i have diabetes and am thinking of retiring next year to Ecuador. What would insurance cost me at 65 years old?

*****

Unfortunately, there's no insurance available to anyone already over 65, at least none that say they are. There are some insurance plans that you can obtain before 65 that will carry you through until you're 70 or beyond.

See our Cuenca Health Insurance page for details about the various Best Doctors Insurance Limited plans that we know about.

The Coopera plan may be best for you, as it will cover 80% of drug and testing equipment, until you reach $400 in expenses.

Which company(ies) are recommended for catastrophic insurance for care inside Ecuador only? Can I buy a plan directly with Hospital Del Rio or Monte Sinai in Cuenca?

I know the hospitals have what we might consider memberships, which you give you reduced costs for lab tests, etc. So it wouldn't surprise me if they have insurance. However, none of them post anything on their web sites about insurance coverage.

As for catastrophic care coverage inside Ecuador, most of the companies have plans that cover you inside the country only. But they're not so specialized yet that they have catastrophic coverage.

Your best bet is to meet with an insurance agent who represents a few companies here. S/he'll be able to explain all of your options.

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.

My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
