I Have 2 Questions and Thank You for This Wonderful Website

by Sherrie
(Nebraska, US)

I have been watching the weather for months and it seems Cuenca has LOTS of rain. How much sunshine does Cuenca get?

I understand there is pollution in Cuenca. Does this affect homes out of the city?

Hi Sherrie.

Thanks for your questions.

Yes, there is lots of rain, at certain times of the year. We're just entering the rainy season, which, paradoxically, is the sunny season (normally) as well.

We just left the dry, cloudy season. Unfortunately, there was far more rain this dry season than normal. Cuencanos tell us that they can't remember Cuenca having as much rain as we had during those months, or it just generally being as cold as it was.

And yes, Cuenca has air pollution, much of it from diesel engines that don't run very well, probably due to the very low cost of diesel fuel.

Out in the country, you won't have that problem nearly as much, but then you won't have the conveniences you'd have here in the city.

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.

My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
