How Cool Is the Climate? We Want a Warm City With Good Infrastructure

by Melanie
(Seattle, WA)

We'll be leaving Seattle soon and hoping to resettle in EC with our school-age sons. Cuenca looks great except it appears to be quite overcast and cool, which is what we're trying to escape. Seattle sun is only strong in July/August, so even 75 is warm. We'd love mid-80s weather year round if possible in EC! Any advice? Maybe Manta?

Hi Melanie.

If you need mid-80s all year, you'll have to live in the Amazon. The coast is hot from December to June (more or less) and warm the rest of the year. Hot is mid- to high 80s. Warm is high 60s to high 70s.

July and August are cool everywhere in Ecuador (warm on the coast), overcast and dry. We're in the wettest part of the year now in Cuenca, and apparently it's much wetter than normal, as this is a La Niña year.

So, either Salinas or Manta will be your best bet if you need hot for as long as possible.

Jeff

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.

My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
