If you're looking for a building full of charm and graciousness, Hotel Victoria is where you'll want to stay. Built as a mansion of brick and marble in the 1800s, the famous writer, poet and politician Remigio Crespo Toral owned the home.
The current owners converted this Calle Larga icon into Hotel Victoria just eight years ago. Sitting high above the Tomebamba River, it's just a few blocks from Parque Calderón and all that El Centro has to offer.
This hotel is one of the few in Cuenca with an elevator! It will take you to any of the five floors, right down to the river level.
The fourth floor (street level) leads you to the beautiful lobby and the front desk, where a quick check-in will have you on your way to your room in just a few minutes.
If you're driving, park at river level and take the elevator up to the front desk.
Many of the floors have a sitting area with a fireplace, so if you feel a chill, ask the staff to light a fire for you. Most of them speak English and will be happy to assist you.
Be sure to ride down to river level and spend some quiet time in the gardens full of beautiful orchids.
There are 23 modern and very comfortable rooms, each with its own unique style. All are well lit, and large by hotel room standards.
Most of them have a beautiful view of the river, New Town and the mountains to the south.
A few, on the top floor, face El Centro. Ask for one of the terrace rooms and you'll never want to stay anywhere else in Cuenca!
Or choose one of the suites on the river level and have orchids and hummingbirds as your view.
All rooms have private bathrooms, with a minibar, mini refrigerator and a TV.
El Jardín, the restaurant, is known for its excellent menu. It's won many international prizes for its cuisine!
The restaurant faces the river, and floor to ceiling windows take advantage of the city's beauty by day and its lights after dark.
The menu has a wide selection with delights for everyone's palate. The seafood is particularly exceptional. And the desserts are ones you won't find in most Cuencan restaurants, such as peach melba or mint and chocolate parfait.
The prices are typical for a restaurant of this quality, with dinner (plus wine) coming close to or slightly over $30 for two people.
Breakfast is included in the room price. It includes a fruit plate, fruit juice, coffee and tea, a variety of breads, and eggs cooked to order with meat.
One dining bonus with your breakfast—hummingbirds! These tiny visitors frequent the many feeders in the gardens below.
Wireless internet is available in all the rooms and in the public areas.
The hotel offers private parking down at the river level, and has a laundry service available.
Hotel Victoria is located at Calle Larga 6-93 and Presidente Antonio Borrero (known simply as Borrero), in downtown Cuenca.

Testimonials
I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.
When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect. My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)
Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
