Hostería Durán
Get Away From Cuenca for a Night

If you'd like to spend your nights away from the bustle of Cuenca, Hostería Durán in Baños may be exactly what you're looking for.

This is a resort hotel that serves many of the people who come to enjoy the hot springs of Baños. Accommodations are in a hacienda-style building just a few feet away from the delight of a thermal pool and steam rooms.

The Public Areas of Hostería Durán

The building's design is faux rustic, for lack of a better term. Cathedral ceilings, painted white, have contrasting beams.

Many of the public areas are built of or lined with stone. The tile floors, beautiful woodwork and the ceilings continue the rustic theme.

Most of the rooms run parallel to the pool, on two levels, with access from a long outside walkway with curved arches (see the last photo, below).

There's a very large dining room that can seat 20 or more people at one long table for a large festive meal.

And the large halls can host a wedding or large event.

The Rooms in Hostería Durán

The rooms are well equipped with the many things you expect in a higher end hotel. A bathrobe is available for each room guest, and the staff place chocolates on your pillow each night.

Singles, doubles, triples, quads and a junior suite are available. Current rates (late 2011) are:

  • Singles for $58.56 per night.
  • Doubles for $85.40 per night.
  • Triples (three people) for $98.82.
  • Quads (four people) for $119.56.
  • The junior suite for $114.56 per night.

Those prices include the tax and your American breakfast.

There are also several promotions available. Go to the web site (link below) and click on Special Offers.

Dining at Hostería Durán

Hostería Durán dining room

There are two options for meals at the hostería.

At poolside, there's a small cafe where you can order a light meal to eat at your table.

Or eat more formally (although still casually) in the El Tucumán dining room, with its great view of the green hillsides nearby.

We ate there on Christmas Day 2010, with Lulie's son Isaac and some friends. Perhaps it was an off day for the kitchen staff, as we were not impressed with the food they served us.

Testimonials

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect. My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
