Cuenca Bound?

Well, after reading many of your responses, it seems like Cuenca may become burdened with an overabundance of what I refer to as "The Ugly Americans" (TUA). A thought which has no appeal to me, at all, but please do not misconstrue, I am a proud American, who will support the United States as much as possible.

However, after being exposed to "The Ugly American" while traveling in Europe, United States, Peru, Mexico and now considering retirement in Cuenca - this information does put a damper on the enthusiasm...

Why do I want to live in a paradise? Hummm, not much thought required for that one...what is appealing about old world architecture, nice sandy beaches, or even mountain/valley vistas? And living in a country where the dollar goes further.... Again a no brainer.

So, having verbally expostulated about all this what does it mean...

Personally, TUAs need to wake up and stop ruining it for the rest of us (assuming I become one). Stop inflating the economy, paying ridiculous amounts for services, driving up Real Estate, all because you never learned to negotiate or really close a deal - I have personally seen evidence of TUAs inflating prices in Baja California - inflating Real Estate, and taking advantage of your fellow American to make a buck. I guess the best advice would be - think before you act, because your lifestyle is not appreciated.

So for what it's worth, I will still keep my eye on Ecuador (Cuenca) and hope the beauty and grandeur can survive an influx of TUAs.

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.

My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
