Can I Work in Cuenca?

Can I work in Cuenca?

I'm Peruvian but also I have American citizenship. My family and I (husband and two kids) are planing to move to Cuenca.

We are around 50s, and we are planing to retire early. We have savings but not enough to cover all our expenses.

I'm fluent in English and Spanish (so is my husband) and I have 20 years experience in hotel and restaurant management and also in retail in US.

Thank you very much. I'm reading your blog for many months and I got lots of information from it.

Thanks,
Fanny

Hi Fanny.

Thanks for your question.

Whether you can legally work depends on your visa, and on what type of work you want to do.

Of course, you can always find some type of work under the radar.

And you can always do some kind of work over the internet, either your own site or working for a company using email and telephone.

Finally, you could start a business and work that. There are a lot of expats who have done that, including running hostals, selling real estate, and starting or buying restaurants.

With your experience, you shouldn't have any problem finding something to supplement your retirement income.

Jeff

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.

My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
