Can I Book Flight On-line With TAME Airlines From the U.S.?

I'm from the U.S. and am visiting Cuenca for the first time in September. I have tried booking round trip flights from Guayaquil to Cuenca on TAME, but get a message saying I have to make my reservations at their service counter. I tried using an American MasterCard to pay for the flight.

Is it possible to make the reservation on-line? Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Many thanks!

Rob, welcome to the world of trying to do things in Ecuador!

In theory, you should be able to book your flight. We tried twice, and failed both times using a MasterCard.

The only restriction I see when I go to the site is that Diner's Club cards can only be used if they're Ecuadorian cards. It doesn't say anything about Visa and MasterCard.

But given our dismal record at booking online with Tame, it's likely that you won't be able to either.

Tame flights are often full, because they're the only airline that flies more than once a day to Cuenca. So it's best not to leave it to chance. I suggest you contact a travel agent and see if they can book the flights for you.

Or consider using a van service. It's about 3 hours, $12 per person on a scheduled trip ($80 if you want the van to yourselves), and you'll see a bit of the country.

How about Quito?

Any van service to Quito?

There are no regularly scheduled services that I've heard of. But you can always hire one privately. Just about any van service company will provide a van for the right price.

Booking With TAME
by: Susan

Hi Rob,

HEADS UP

I tried to also book online with TAME, with a Canadian MasterCard. Same problem as you, it did not work.

I happened to check my credit card on line and guess what? TAME charged me for the tickets but had no record of a reservation. To boot I was charged twice.

Trying to have TAME reimburse me was impossible, so I had MasterCard handle it and within two weeks I was reimbursed.
So you might want to verify this has not also happened to you

Good luck!

PS the van ride from Guayquill is fun.

I just want to thank you both soooo much for creating this web site. I am originally from Cuenca but moved to New York 11 years ago and have not being back since. My husband and I are planning on visiting Cuenca over the Summer and this web site has helped me a lot.

When I came to the US we still had the "sucre," the bus ride cost 1,000 sucres and a pack of trident gum would cost 3,000 sucres. I am very nervous to go back, but thanks to your web site I now know what to expect.

My husband is American and Captivating Cuenca has taught him a lot about what my great city has to offer, things that I had forgotten about myself! :)

Thank You both so much! I cannot wait to visit Cuenca!!
